Howick Protea Farm is situated in the picturesque Midlands of Kwa –Zulu Natal, some 1100 m above sea level and approximately 100 km inland from the Port of Durban, South Africa.
Established in 1999, Howick Protea Farm produces the best quality Protea blooms that Kwa-Zulu Natal has to offer for both the local and international markets.
Our pack house which is situated on site, allows us full control from growing to picking and packaging for onward sale to our receivers without any delays.
We currently have under cultivation, 14 hectares of Proteas, Leucospermum and Leucadendron cultivars growing in deep clay soils on a moderate north eastern slope. Planting is on contoured ridges for good drainage and the crop is watered through the dry winter months from an underground water source via drip irrigation piping.
Flowers and foliage are harvested every day for the local and international markets. Flowers are cleaned, graded and packed according to size and variety, this results in only the best quality blooms leaving the farm and finding their way to our clients.
All our protea's are grown naturally in the open, so therefore we can not guarantee specific flowering times but contact us for more details on species produced and their approximate flowering times and availability.
Howick Protea Farm is a member of The South African Protea Produces and Exporters Association (SAPPEX) and the Kwa-Zulu Natal Cut Flower Association. We are following the SAPPEX code of practice for Protea and Fynbos producers as a step to the implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and obtaining Eurepgap certification.
